Walter Carl
Wey
July 3, 1936 – March 22, 2026
Walter Wey was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Walt had a strong aversion snow and cold, so when an opportunity to work in the booming aerospace industry in California opened up he jumped at it. He and several of his college friends moved to Hermosa Beach and enjoyed the southern CA life. Walt started a long career at Hughes Aircraft and retired from there after 27 years at the young age of 56.
Walt met the love of his life Ruth at a mutual friend's party in San Diego. Ruth approached Walt and asked him if he knew how to fix a toilet, and the rest as they say is history. They married in April of 1963 and lived joyfully for 61 years, until Ruth passed in 2024. Walt and Ruth have three children: Mike (wife Tracy), Tom, and Patti. Walt enjoyed his family life and was actively involved in scouts and ymca programs with his kids. He loved travel (especially road trips) and was known for his quirky sense of humor. He loved making jokes and getting his friends and family to chuckle (or groan at the especially awful puns). He passed away on March 22 at the age of 89.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Walt's memory can be made to Peninsula Seniors (pvseniors.org) or The American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
