Wayne attended Sierra Madre Elementary School and graduated from Pasadena High in 1956. He went on to graduate from Pasadena City College and attended UCLA for a degree in Turfgrass Management.
Wayne always kept busy with jobs, from delivering newspapers and working Christmas shifts at the Post Office to helping at the local gas station and his mom's store, Perry's Hallmark Store. He also served in the National Guard for five years.
In 1960, Wayne began working for the County of Los Angeles as a Golf Course Superintendent. He started at San Anita Golf Course, and in 1963, he was sent to open Los Verdes Golf Course, where he remained for 19 years, lovingly caring for the course. He was a golf course superintendent for 36 years and was known to all as Uncle Wayne.
Wayne was a Lifetime Member of the Los Verdes Men's Club, serving as a Board Member and helping in any way he could. Los Verdes Golf Course truly was the love of his life.
He loved his "Monday Night Football Gang" and was a member of the Riviera Men's Club and a lifetime member of the San Pedro Elks Lodge. For years, he helped out at the San Pedro YMCA Christmas Tree Lot. Wayne enjoyed playing golf with his many friends, traveling, cooking, and gardening. He was also a three-time winner of the chili cook-off with his award-winning recipe.
Wayne passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is predeceased by his parents Randall and Juanita Perry, brothers Gerald and Bob and his first wife Joan Gaffey Perry.
He leaves behind his current wife of 13 years, Yolanda, as well as her two children, Georgette (Cem) Dutoit of Zurich, Switzerland, and Guy (Kathleen) Sedillo of Vail, Colorado.
