Whirry Walter Lee passed on September 16, 2025. He was born on January 21, 1933, to Hugh and Myrtle Whirry. He was born in McMinnville, Oregon. In August of 1936, his sister Jean was born. The family moved from Oregon to Inglewood, California.
He attended Caltech Los Angeles and Harvard University. He graduated with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He was a founding partner and engineer of an engineering company, Micromega. He then moved on to become an engineer at Hughes Aircraft and retired from TRW.
He married Marilyn Jachetti in Boston, Massachusetts. They then went on to welcome two sons, Robert Alan, born in 1960 and David Lawrence, born in 1963. After Robert was born, they returned to California.
He married Joyce Elizabeth Torres in February of 1981. They lived their entire 43 years of marriage in Redondo Beach, California.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Jean, his bonus-son, David, his grandson, Adam, his wife, Joyce and, just recently, his son David.
He is survived by his son, Robert, his bonus children, Theresa (Tom) and Raymond. He is survived by his grandchildren, a niece, and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial service at his resting place at Green Hills in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
