Walter Michael McHugh Jr. was born on December 6, 1924, son of Walter M. McHugh Sr. and Alice Callahan McHugh of Meridian, Mississippi. Walter was the third of four children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pioneer radar crewman in World War II. Upon discharge Walt earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University and came west to work for various aerospace corporations including North American Aviation, Hughes Aircraft and Northgate Aviation. On holiday on Catalina Island in 1950 Walt met the love of his life, Katina Murufas and thus began their 64 year love affair. Married in 1951, they raised three children. In the twilight of his career, Walt taught Mathematics and Science for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Walt and Tina enjoyed traveling the world over and shared many adventures. They particularly enjoyed their many vacations at Costa Del Sol, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Walt also valued his participation in Toastmasters Club 111, San Pedro. Walt is survived by his daughter, Penny Vining (John Peterson), son Kevin (Pamela)McHugh daughter Erin Johansen, Granddaughters Jessica (Tyler) McLean, Leah (Kevin) Heesch, Kaitlin (Jonathan) Walker, Anna (Brandon) Thorson, Allison Johansen (Greg Stupplebeen) and Great Grandchildren, Stella, Coco and Gemma McLean, Porter Heesch and Carson, Cooper and Sawyer Walker. Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tina, his sister, Mary Margaret McHugh, older brothers Harry McHugh of Reno, NV and Lee McHugh of Long Beach, WA.
