Virginia “Virgie” Thomas
(Formerly Maranon and Quintrequeo)
7/27/43-4/3/26
It’s with heartfelt sorrow that we announced the passing of Virginia “Virgie” Thomas, a devoted follower of Christ and a longtime member of Harbor church.
Virginia who from this point on will be known affectionately as “Virgie”passed away in Lomita, California, on April 3, 2026.
Virgie was born on July 27, 1943, in Morenci, Arizona . She was eldest of eight children. Virgie later moved to San Pedro, California with her mother, Crusita and her father Ezekiel Bailon, where she resided for many years.
In addition to living in San Pedro, Virgie also lived in Lomita, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Hawthorne, and Bodfish. Her home in Bodfish was the residence she shared with her third husband of 40 years, Jerry Thomas.
At an early age, Virgie worked at the canneries and maybe for one day at J. J. Newberry’s lunch counter. It was probably the thought of flipping burgers for the rest of her life that led her to a successful career in the aerospace industry.
Virgie‘s aerospace career began at Electronics Memories where she learned how to solder, this trade led to employment at TRW, Hughes, which later became Raytheon. During her employment, she received a top government clearance. This clearance allowed her to travel on work related business to destinations unknown, to this day not much is known about what she did, except that she worked on the Global Hawk project and on the B-52 program.
Throughout her life, Virgie found strength in the Lord and maintained a devotion that was steady, humble and sincere. She held various callings within Harbor church, including being involved in Kid Camp, Vacation Bible School and chaperoning at various church sanction trips.
In addition to her church activities, Virgie found joy in knitting, Swedish weaving, reading, eating and traveling. Her travels took her to Jerusalem, Paris, Mombasa, Alaska, Indonesia, China, and one Disney Cruise.
But mostly what Virgie loved was staying connected to family and friends. The later was evident by despite her many health challenges she still managed to attend all or as many as possible family functions, including barbecues, birthday parties, high school plays, and any other function where there was food, laughter, family and friends.
Virgie’s presence will truly be missed. Her smile and laughter will always remain in our memories and she will always remain in our hearts.
Virgie was preceded in death by her mother Crusita Martin, her father Ezekiel Bailon; her first husband, Harold Maranon; her third husband, Jerry Thomas; one son Ivan Quintrequeo; one great grandson, Alex Batista and one brother, Joseph Bailon.
She is survived by one son, Stuart (Kris) Maranon, one daughter, Sylvia Novoa; two step-sons, Steven Thomas, Michael Thomas; one step-daughter, Jenna Thomas; three brothers, Zeke (Laurie) Bailon, Rudy Martin, Michael (Florence) Martin; three sisters, Jackie (Ray) Terrones, Sandi Martin and Connie Osorio and her last living aunt Rose Price . She is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and way too many nieces, nephews, friends and family members to mention by name.
Funeral services will be held at Harbor Church located at 25401 South Western Avenue, Lomita, California 90717, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 1230 P.M. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery located at 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275 at 2 P.M.
Lastly, the family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Virgie during her illness, thank you Judy Dore for making sure she had a ride to her many doctors appointments; Sandi Martin for helping with Virgie’s everyday task and Michael Thomas for being her primary care giver and for being her friend and lunch/dinner companion.
