Toyoko Hayashi 98, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2023, at her home in Torrance, CA. Born in Stockton, CA, on May 11, 1925, she graduated early from Liberty Union High School as a junior due to WW II and Americans of Japanese ancestry being relocated into internment camps during the War. It was at the camp where she met and got engaged to Russell Masami Hayashi. After they were released from the camp, they got married in Chicago and she became the loving mother to Faith Hayashi.
In Chicago, the young couple saved enough money to purchase a dry cleaners where she lived and worked for 13 ½ years. They moved back to southern California where Toyoko became a cashier for Safeway grocery stores and became the loving mother to Brian Hayashi. After retiring from 18 years at Safeway she became the loving grandmother of David and Rachel Hayashi. She loved taking care of her grandchildren. In later years, she loved to play bingo at the senior center and watch crime dramas, true crime shows and spending time with the family. She was known for her kindness and caring, her loving smile, sense of humor.
She leaves behind her daughter Faith, son Brian, grandson David, Granddaughter Rachel, sister Hedy, brother Ken and eight nieces and nephews.
