Tew Ping Loo was known as "Ping" among her friends. She was born near Canton China in 1928. The oldest of three children she helped raise her two younger brothers. The 'Great Depression" had affected the world economy, and Life in China was hard. Her grandfather left China looking for a better opportunity and eventually ended up in Lima Peru. He started several successful local businesses and asked his four sons to join him in Lima. Ping's father was one of the four sons and left for Lima when she was eleven. Then in 1938 the Japanese invasion of China started, followed by World War II, and later the Chinese Revolution. In 1946 she met Bing (Benny) Loo a WWII US Army Air Corp Veteran who served in Europe. The war had just ended, and he had return to China to see his mother and bury his father. They married in 1947 and had four children. In 1965 they opened the "Far East Restaurant" which featured Chinese cuisine located on the corner of 11th and Pacific Ave in San Pedro Calif. Benny ran the kitchen and Ping ran the dining room. Together they operated the restaurant for more than twenty years and were proud members of the San Pedro Kiwanis Club.
