It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sylvia Sanchez, who left us peacefully in her sleep on May 19, 2025, in Wilmington, California. Born on September 2, 1948, in San Pedro, California, Sylvia's journey through life was marked by kindness, creativity, and an undying love for her family.
Sylvia was a beacon of warmth and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her kind heart extended to anyone in need, often offering support in translation or simply being there for those who needed someone to talk to. She was loved not only for her nurturing spirit but also for the joy she brought to her family gatherings.
Christmas time was especially dear to Sylvia; it was her favorite holiday celebrated with the preparation of homemade meals that delighted all who gathered around her table. Dishes such as arroz con gandules, pasteles, plantains, fritos, and ponche became the essence of festive family memories, illustrating her love through food and tradition.
Sylvia took immense pride in her accomplishments, particularly in raising her five children: Margo, Serina, Rosalind, Edward and Carlos Sanchez, who cherish their mother's legacy. Her thoughtful teachings and nurturing embrace were a foundation upon which they built their lives. She found great joy as a grandmother to 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each representing a unique thread in the colorful tapestry of her life.
A talented artist, Sylvia inspired many with her exceptional penmanship, creativity in drawing, and painting. Her artistic expression reflected her vibrant personality, leaving behind beautiful pieces that resonate with the love she shared.
Sylvia's academic journey began at Phineas Banning High School in Wilmington, California, where she earned her high school diploma. Her education laid the groundwork for a life dedicated to the growth and well-being of her family.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Linda Gallegos, brother-in-law, Reynaldo Gallegos, nephew, Rey, Gallegos, and niece Reyna Gallegos,
who will carry fond memories of their time together. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband, Edward Sanchez, daughter Margo Sanchez, and son Carlos Sanchez, all of whom she held close to her heart and whose absence is deeply felt in the fabric of her family.
Sylvia’s funeral service will be held at Green Hills Mortuary & Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on July 7, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Park at 10:15 AM.
As we bid farewell to Sylvia, we hold close the cherished memories of her love, creativity, and unwavering commitment to family. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched and will continue to inspire acts of kindness as we remember the beautiful person she was.
