Sumiko Saiki Torii

Sumiko Saiki Torii was born on October 18, 1931 and passed away on September 4, 2026. She was 94 years old.

Sumiko was a 1949 graduate of Kapa'a High School and later attended Honolulu Business College, where she earned a certification in accounting. She built a dedicated career in accounting, holding positions at First American Title Company, Servco, and American Honda Motor Co. until her retirement in 1995.

She will forever be remembered as good-natured, generous, kind, funny, personable, and disciplined. Sumiko enjoyed a full and active life filled with golf, card games, many golf trips, visits to Vegas, and Bingo at Villa Sorrento. She was a great cook who shared many potluck meals with family and friends, and she found great joy in the Pauhana breakfasts and luncheons with her ladies group. At home, she enjoyed Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Sudoku puzzles and, of course, her LA Dodgers.

Of all the blessings in her life, the time she shared with her granddaughters was especially dear to her. Those moments brought her deep happiness and joy and remained closest to her heart.

Sumiko is survived by her daughter, Stacey (Torii) Peterson, granddaughters, Lauren Torii Coletti (Vincent) and Layne Torii Peterson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Akiko Saiki; and her many nieces who were very close and dear to her, Colette Saiki (Larry), Ginger Saiki, Rhonda Arakaki (Glenn), Krislen Kanase (Don), Joy Yokouchi, Aja Chang (Joe), and by many loving friends whose closeness made her life so special. She leaves behind a family and community who will carry forward warm memories of her laughter, her strength, her generosity, and the many happy times shared together

Sumiko’s life was marked by devotion to family, friendships, hard work, and simple joys well loved. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A graveside service will be held on October 6, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
