Steve Wilhelm Lidell was born December 8, 1938 in Los Angeles. He had a life-long love of running on the beach, the ocean and fishing. Steve also enjoyed gardening in his beautiful yard and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved to dance and sing and play tennis.
Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis Washington where he served as a Private First Class the Headquarters Battery, 1 st Rocket Howitzer Battalion, 20 th Artillery as a supply clerk. At Ft. Lewis, Steve received a Letter of Commendation for his service. Steve later transferred to the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in December 1967. Steve will be buried with military honors.
After leaving Ft. Lewis, Steve moved to Hermosa Beach, where he lived for the rest of his life. Steve met his beloved Carol on the beach at 13 th Street in Hermosa and they were married in July 1965. Their son Brock was born on January 16, 1978 and they raised him on Golden Avenue in
Hermosa, where Steve lived until just before his passing. Steve was an active and involved parent, cheering Brock on and serving as an assistant coach for his soccer team. For a time, Steve also sang in a choir. Steve had careers in the grocery and warehouse industries and after his retirement kept busy with fishing, going to the gym, enjoying coffee with friends at McDonalds and watching his favorite team the Los Angeles Rams.
Steve also loved the pet cats who were part of the family over the years, including Bear, Cinder and Shadow. He also loved the family pet parakeet Flicker. Steve is survived by his wife of almost 62 years Carol, his son Brock, the family’s beloved cat Fluff and his sister-in-law Penny Davis.
A graveside service honoring Steve’s life will be held on June 23, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
