Sheila Mae Clements (nee VanSickle) was born on October 23, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys and John VanSickle. She grew up on First Street in San Pedro with her older sister, Gretchen. As a teenager, Sheila was involved in Job's Daughters, sang with her family in the St. Peter's Episcopal Church choir, and spent time at the family's cabin in Crestline. She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1960 and attended Harbor College, later working as a legal secretary in Long Beach and Torrance. She retired from Cayman Development of Irvine shortly after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1994.

In 1962, a blind date arranged by her best friend led Sheila to fall in love with Stephen Clements of Lomita; they married in 1963. She was a devoted wife throughout Steve's service in Vietnam and his LAPD career from 1969 to 1996. Sheila loved being a mother to daughters Cindy and Nicole, staying home with them for several years and sewing their clothes and Halloween costumes. She was active in the John Adams PTA and the Wives of Los Angeles Police Officers, and the family camped together each year, traveling as far as Florida, Georgia, and Indiana. An avid reader, baker, and gardener, Sheila later turned to needlework, ribbon embroidery, and beaded crafts, often gifting her creations to loved ones; her handmade Christmas ornaments remain treasured heirlooms. She adored her grandchildren.

Sheila passed away on June 11, 2026, after suffering a severe stroke. She is survived by daughters Cindy Paulson (Tom) and Nicole Talley, and five grandchildren: Scott, Matthew, Hanna, Kylie, and Jimmy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; her parents, Gladys and John; and her sister, Gretchen. She is now free of her physical limitations and reunited with her true love, Stephen.
