In Loving Memory of Sergio “Sergie” Maya Jr.
September 25, 1990 – September 25, 2025
Sergio “Sergie” Maya Jr., lovingly known by many as Lil’ Ringo, Lelo, and to his wife as “my love,” passed away unexpectedly and tragically on his 35th birthday following a hit-and-run accident in California. His loss leaves a hole that can never be filled, but his spirit and love will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Born in California on September 25, 1990, Sergio’s life was one of adventure, hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to his family. From a young age, he was drawn to the ocean and to working with his hands. He found his calling as a Merchant Marine, sailing the coasts from California to Alaska and across the Bering Sea, from New Hampshire to northern Maine. He was proud of his work, dedicated to his crew, and always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
Sergio grew up playing football and loved bonding with his fathers over the game. He had a lifelong passion for working on cars, welding, and building—whether it was stereo systems, RC cars, or anything mechanical that caught his eye. He was happiest when he was outdoors: off-roading, riding dirt bikes, snowboarding, hiking, camping, and surfing the California waves he loved so much. He was always chasing the next adventure, the next horizon, the next laugh.
But of all the roles Sergio had in life, none meant more to him than being a husband and father. He met the love of his life, Tauni, in high school, and together they built a beautiful love story full of devotion, laughter, and shared dreams. The arrival of their son, Theo made his heart complete. Being a father was his greatest joy and proudest achievement—there was no title he cherished more than “Dad.”
Sergio was one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. He had an effortless way of bringing joy to others—a natural comedian with a quick wit and a smile that could light up a room. He could turn even the hardest day around and make the grumpiest person laugh. Loyal, generous, and hardworking, he was the kind of person everyone wanted in their corner. To know him was to love him, and to love him was to be changed by his warmth, humor, and heart.
Sergio is survived by his loving wife Tauni Maya and cherished son Theo Maya; his mother Patricia “Missie” Robinson and stepfather Jose Vasquez; his father Sergio Maya Sr. and stepmother Chrissy Maya; his grandmother Anita Maya; grandparents Robert and Adele Robinson; his siblings Michael Rada (Elizabeth), Kristen Huntelman (Kevin), Lauren Elizondo (Hector), and Joseph Vasquez (Josh); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by loved ones who now welcome him home with open arms.
A celebration of Sergio’s life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275
A reception will follow from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The Plaza at Cabrillo Marina2965 Via Cabrillo-Marina, San Pedro, CA 90731
