Sebastian Gurrola Ruiz, 88, of San Pedro, California, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025.
He was born on January 20, 1937, to Ignacio Ruiz and Helen Gurrola, and grew up in Pico Rivera, where he spent much of his early life until starting his family with Carmen Ruiz in San Pedro, CA. Sebastian dedicated his career to Caltrans, where he worked faithfully for 44 years until his retirement.
Sebastian was known for his caring nature, sense of humor, and contagious laugh. He was a resourceful handyman who always seemed to have a solution for any problem. A lifelong sports lover, he enjoyed playing basketball and was a proud fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers. He also loved playing guitar and singing, taking road trips, exploring the outdoors, riding horses, and dancing. Above all, he cherished spending time with his beloved wife, Carmen Ruiz, and their family. He was the rock of his family, someone everyone could count on—always ready to lend a helping hand to relatives, friends, neighbors, and his community. His strength, generosity, and devotion left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Sebastian is survived by his wife, Carmen; his children Sebastian, Virginia, Frank, Armando, Sylvia, and Edward; as well as his siblings Florence, Stephanie, Cecilia, Ignacio, Gabriel, and Leonardo. He was a proud father and a devoted family man whose presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
