Robert Edwin Simpson

December 9, 1941 — March 29, 2025

Robert Edwin Simpson went to Heaven peacefully on March 29, 2025 surrounded by family.members.
He is survived by his devoted wife Cecilia (Sally), sons Mark (Donna), Paul and Richard, his sister Susan Thomas (Tim), Sister-in law Mona Schartzer (John), four grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous Nephews and Nieces.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Harold and Marjorie Simpson, his son Robert Edwin Simpson, Jr and his Grandson Paul Warren Simpson Jr.
Born and raised in San Pedro he attended Cabrillo Avenue Elementary, White Point Elementary, Richard Henry Dana Junior High and San Pedro High School. The highlight of his High School years was playing “Short Stop” on the Varsity Baseball team. He graduated with the Senior Class of S’59, the “Aladdin’s”.
Shortly after graduating from High School he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1967.
After serving honorably in the Coast Guard he was employed by Industrial Filtration. From there he joined the ranks of the Retail Clerks. His career lasted a total of forty six years. Many will remember him from Mc Cowan’s Market on 20th and Walker, Hughes Market in Rancho Palos Verdes or as the Assistant Manager at the South Shore Hardware Store on 25th Street, (now Malaga Bank).
His favorite vacations almost always included his love of fishing. His favorite fishing spots were Roads End on the Kern River, Mammoth, Yosemite and opening day of Trout fishing in Bishop.
During his retirement years he spent countless hours in his woodworking shop creating decorative birdhouses, whirligigs, wishing wells and child-size tables and chairs.
His other hobbies were working in his garden or raising and caring for “birds” Over the years he raised Pigeons, Canaries, Love Birds, Cockatiels, Parakeets, Finches, Quail and Doves.
Most recently, he spent his mornings sitting on his front porch visiting with neighbors and friends. Others walking their dogs would also stop to chat. Bob always had treats and water for the dogs.
Bob will be truly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. His spirit lives on in the memories, laughter and love that he shared.
