Robert "Bob" De Garceau, a Manhattan Beach resident of 47 years passed away on January 16, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend to all.
Bob was born and raised in Pomona, CA by his mother Margaret where he attended Pomona High school and Mount San Antonio College. He served on active duty and in the reserves for the US Army from 1957-1963 during which time he was stationed for 15 months in Korea. He was a decorated marksman and sharpshooter.
Shortly after leaving active military duty Bob met his future wife Sandra, who he married in 1963. Bob started his career with General Telephone as a cable splicer and eventually worked his way up to managing large engineering projects. He retired in 1993 but continued to work as a telecommunications consultant until 2012.
Together with Sandra, Bob raised four wonderful children. He was a dedicated father and heavily involved in his children's activities. Affectionately known as "Coach Bob" he coached youth sports in Manhattan Beach for 20 years including Mira Costa little league, AYSO soccer and softball.
His passions included family, golf, gardening, history, cars, aviation, science, classical music and his many dogs.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Sandra; son Brian; daughter Cindy; son Eric (Anjanette); daughter Denise; his 4 grandchildren: Annika, Audrey, Tyler and James; niece Carolyn Lutz (Myron) of Texas; loving labs Libby and Winnie; and was predeceased by brother Eugene and nephew Michael.
Memorial services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes on January 22nd at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Bob to The American Cancer Society or the United Service Organization (USO)
