Robert O. Capunitan

January 21, 1954 — November 11, 2024

Robert O. Capunitan, beloved brother, father, grandfather, and pioneer in the tech industry, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 70.

Born in Manila, Philippines, on January 21, 1954, to Dionisio Capunitan and Lourdes Ocampo, Robert spent his early years in Laguna, Philippines. He attended Biñan Elementary School and Lake Shore Educational Institute before pursuing his passion for engineering at Mapúa University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the country.

In January 1973, Robert immigrated to the United States with his parents and sisters, embracing new opportunities and the American dream. His innate curiosity and determination drove him to teach himself computer programming during the early days of the tech revolution. He went on to work as a consultant for prominent companies, including Los Angeles Nut House, American Racing, and MK Diamond. As one of the first programmers to work on IBM computers, Robert's innovative spirit ultimately led him to establish his own tech consulting firm, ROC Information Systems.

For over 35 years, Robert was a vital contributor to Bridgestone Firestone, where he developed and managed the Survey Tire Program (STP). This essential application supported field engineers in conducting tire research and development across North and South America, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.

Robert married Cynthia Fonacier, with whom he built a beautiful life and family. Together, they raised four children: Korene, Jason, Kelly, and Ann. In his later years, Robert found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to his life.

Robert’s talents and passions extended far beyond his career. A lover of music and art, he found joy playing the piano and saxophone. He also cherished Harley-Davidson motorcycles, enjoyed fine wine, and spent happy hours golfing and sharing time with friends and loved ones.

Robert's life was a testament to perseverance, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
