Robert “Bob” Bryant

A Life Dedicated to Family, Faith, and San Pedro

Robert “Bob” Bryant, a lifelong resident and devoted champion of San Pedro, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by his family, on September 10, 2026. He leaves behind a profound legacy of service, leadership, faith, and unconditional love.

Born and raised in San Pedro, Bob’s heart always belonged to the town he proudly called home. He attended Crestwood Elementary and Dodson Junior High before graduating from San Pedro High School with the Winter Class of 1965— high school class name was “Elegants.” He continued on and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach.

It was in San Pedro that he built his life alongside his beloved wife of 56 years, Ellen (Crampton) Bryant. Together, they raised three children, and had 6 wonderful grandchildren, instilling in them the same deep appreciation for family, faith, and community that defined Bob’s life. For Bob family always came first, and his family meant the world to him.

For decades, Bob dedicated himself to enriching the town that raised him. Through his countless acts of service and leadership, he touched generations of San Pedrans and left an indelible mark on the community he loved. Bob was a cornerstone of AYSO Regions 6 San Pedro and 10 Palos Verdes, serving as a coach and referee starting in 1980—a role he passionately continued through 2025. He also devoted 12 years to serving as Regional Commissioner for AYSO Region 6, San Pedro.

Deeply committed to guiding his community forward, Bob served as a Board Member of the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council, and ran for Honorary Mayor of San Pedro in the 1980s.

Bob first worked for Sears and Roebucks in sales working in the sporting goods department and then advanced to running their commercial truck tires division for California, out of the Torrance location, and then followed in his father’s footsteps as a Prudential insurance agent and Financial Planner. After retirement he continued working with Lincoln Financial as a Financial Planner.

Guided by his deep and abiding faith, Bob served on the Vestry and as an usher at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, as well as Chairman of the Board of St. Peter’s Episcopal Day School.

Bob treasured the brotherhood and fellowship he found as a member of Los Angeles Harbor Lodge No. 332, Free & Accepted Masons, and San Pedro Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 174. His commitment to young people was equally strong: he served as Chairman and Chapter Dad for San Pedro DeMolay International and was an avid supporter of Job’s Daughters International, including Bethel 24 San Pedro and Bethel 50 Manhattan Beach.

An avid model railroading enthusiast and local historian, Bob was a Life Member and Board Member of the Angels Gate Hi-Railers Model Railroading Club. He was also a passionate advocate for preserving San Pedro’s heritage, serving as a conductor and operator on the historic Pacific Electric Red Car.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Bryant; his children, Robert (Estela), Ellen, and Charles (Jaera) Bryant; his cherished grandchildren, Kathryn, Lucas, Nicholas, Cailey, Alexander, and Adelynn Bryant; his sister-in-law, Alexis (Michael) Stumpf; his sister, Susan Howe; his nieces and nephews, Alexandra (Nahum), Michael, Tim, and Brian; and great-nieces Victoria and Sloane. He also leaves behind a community that is immeasurably better because of him. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Kathryn Bryant.

Whether he was on the soccer field, at church, mentoring young people, serving his community, operating the Red Car, sharing his passion for model railroading, or simply surrounded by his grandchildren, Bob brought warmth, integrity, generosity, and unwavering dedication to everything he did. His life was a testament to the power of giving back, loving deeply, and remaining faithful to the people and place he called home.

Bob will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the generations he guided, the traditions he helped preserve, and the San Pedro community he loved so dearly.
