Richard lived life with a big heart, a love for adventure, and a personality that people never forgot.

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Richard Pilar Ortega—a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, Marine, and friend. Richard lived life with a big heart, a love for adventure, and a personality that people never forgot.

Richard was born on January 5, 1968, to Pilar and Clemencia Ortega. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1985 to 1989, and the values he learned there—hard work, strength, and perseverance—stayed with him throughout his life.

Family meant everything to Richard. He was a proud father to Monique, Richy, and Sebastian, and some of his favorite memories were made spending time with them at Royal Palms Beach, the Korean Bell, and anywhere they could enjoy the outdoors together. Later in life, becoming Grandpa to Riley and Charlotte brought him even more happiness. They always knew Grandpa was ready for fun.

Richard loved anything that got him outside. He enjoyed surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and riding his quad or motorcycle. He also loved punk, rock, and heavy metal music, making people laugh, and talking with just about anyone. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and could turn a stranger into a friend in just a few minutes.

He was also known for his strong work ethic. Over the years, he worked in construction, as a loan officer, and as a stockbroker. He wasn’t afraid to learn something new or start over. No matter what job he had, he gave it his best.. there was no challenge he couldn’t overcome.

Even after being diagnosed with cancer, Richard showed incredible strength and courage. He faced every challenge with determination and continued to show the same adventurous spirit that defined his life.

Richard is survived by his children, Monique and Richy; his son-in-law, Raul; his beloved granddaughters, Riley and Charlotte; his mother; his siblings; along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who loved him .

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Sebastian, and his father, Pilar.

Richard will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his hard work, his sense of humor, and the love he had for his family and friends. He taught us to enjoy life, work hard, and never be afraid to try something new.

Although he is gone, the memories he gave us and the love he shared will stay with us forever.
