Raymond Christopher Martinez, affectionately known as Ray, was born on September 13, 1953, at Harbor General Torrance, CA, where he began a life characterized by dedication and passion. He passed away in Harbor City on September 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy cherished by his family and friends.
Ray's career spanned many years, showcasing his diligent work ethic and commitment to his roles. For ten years, he was a valued member of The Gas Company before embarking on an impressive twenty-seven-year tenure as a longshoreman with the ILWU. It was clear that Ray loved being a longshoreman, as it provided him with not only a livelihood but also a community of many best friends who shared in his unique experiences.
A proud graduate of Narbonne High School, Ray carried a wealth of knowledge and experience that greatly contributed to his professional life. His interests extended beyond his career; he found joy in making jewelry and had a keen eye for investing in coins, pursuits that complemented his creative spirit.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife, Reyna Martinez, along with his children: Joshua, Christian, and Naomi Martinez, and his grandchildren Riley and Brody Martinez. He is also survived by his loving mother, Julia Martinez, and his siblings: Irene Willis, Evelyn Morris, Mary Ann Boyd, Lee Martinez, and Eddie Martinez. Additionally, his family includes his stepson, Santiago Cortez, and stepdaughter, Susie Tello, who mourn his passing alongside those who knew him well.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Martinez, and his sister, Anita Martinez, both of whom will be lovingly remembered by his family.
A memorial gathering to honor Ray's life will be held on October 25, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with viewing from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The memorial service will begin at 5:30pm at Green Hills Mortuary & Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Following this, a private graveside service will take place on November 7, 2025, at Green Hills Memorial Park.
Raymond Christopher Martinez's warm spirit and dedicated heart will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His presence, wisdom, and passion for life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
