Raymond E. Avelino Sr., age 63, was called to heaven to join our Almighty God on Monday, May 23, 2016, at Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He was born to the late Tranquilino and Juanita Avelino on November 23, 1952 in Manila, Philippines. He was the youngest son of their eight children, Mina, Eve, Dennis, Jimmy, Alex, Aggie and their youngest sister Tess. Raymond attended Ramon Magsaysay High School and the University of Santo Tomas School of Engineering where he met many of his lifelong friends.
He migrated to Los Angeles, CA in 1974. A few months later, he met his future wife, Lourdes "Lori" Fausto, through his brother-in-law and other mutual friends. They were engaged in 1975 and were married on August 6, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They later celebrated their church wedding on December 10, 1977 at St. Cornelius Church in Long Beach, CA. Raymond and Lori welcomed their first child, Darlene in July 1978. They purchased their first home in Long Beach, CA and soon after, welcomed their son, Raymond Jr. in April 1981. In 1986, they moved to Rancho Palos Verdes where they would eventually settle down and raise their children together. Raymond worked as a computer consultant for companies such as Columbia/Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Nestle and most recently the Honda Motor Company, in Torrance, CA where he retired from in 2011 after receiving a double lung transplant.
Raymond was fun-loving and was known as the life of the party. He always knew how to make people laugh and loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. He was also very generous and caring, treating others as if they were part of his own family. His all-time favorite hobby was playing golf and would spend his weekends catching tee-times with his golf buddies and colleagues. He also enjoyed traveling, taking road trips, ballroom dancing with Lori, singing and playing the guitar, and eating out at various restaurants. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lori; daughter, Darlene Avelino David and her husband Jerrold of Valencia, CA; son, Raymond Avelino Jr. and his wife Janet of Northridge, CA. He was the proud and loving grandfather to his three grandsons, Christian Jalen Avelino David, Nathan Ray Avelino and Caleb Emmanuel Avelino David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tranquilino and Juanita; sister, Mina and brother, Dennis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2nd, 4pm-8pm and Friday, June 3rd, 3pm-8pm at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at Saint John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Rd,
Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
Burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
