Purificacion Flores Salas also known as “Puring” was born on February 2, 1932 in Minalin, Pampamga Philippines. She has two brothers and two half-sisters. She later moved to Manila where she met her husband, Arturo Salas. Together they raised six children, Edith, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Ronald, Ethelene and Rommel along with two nieces Nita and Mila. She had fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Puring was the driving force to attain the educational endeavors of many family members. While being a homemaker and dressmaker herself, she enabled her husband to become an accountant. It was her primary vision for the family to relocate to the United States.
All her life, Puring was a devout Catholic. She adhered to the many traditions, commitments, and love that she embraced being a Filipino Catholic. Because of her strong Catholic faith, she rarely missed daily masses at St. Philomena Church or participate in rosary or prayer meetings with the St. Martha Society. Even when all her children were grown up, her ties to St. Philomena Church were extensive. This allowed her to have the social life that enabled her to maintain herself mentally, emotionally and spiritually throughout her life.
Puring was also able to travel to different places and go on missionary trips to Fatima, Lourdes, and the Holy Land with family and friends. However, her main heart’s destination has always been the Philippines where she was a mother to her many nieces and nephews still residing there. Not only was she a driving force towards her immediate family, but to the families of her brothers and sisters. Her love for her family never diminished and that is why she is loved by many family members and friends.
