Patricia Lyn Forbess
October 3, 1939 – November 12, 2025
Pat Forbess, born Patricia Lyn Mundt, passed away peacefully on November 12th at the age of 86. She was a loving wife, mother, gramma, sister, and friend. Pat is survived by her husband, Ronald; their children, Ron (Marí), Greg, and Doug (Dani); and their five beloved grandchildren: Sean and Molly, and Seth, Timothy, and Nicola. She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen, and her parents, Arthur and Geraldine Mundt.
Pat was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, and moved at an early age to San Francisco, Hermosa Beach, and then Redondo Beach. She attended Los Angeles Lutheran High School. After earning an associate’s degree from El Camino College, she began working in the R&D Chemistry Lab at Hughes Aircraft Company, where she spent 12 years.
Pat and Ron met at work, and after sharing in his love of hiking and backpacking, they were married in 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Redondo Beach. They lived in Torrance for two years before moving to their home in Rancho Palos Verdes in 1969. There, they joined Mount Olive Lutheran Church and became active members. They raised their three sons in the church, where Pat sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. They were deeply involved in Boy Scouts, supporting their sons from Cub Scouts all the way through to each achieving Eagle Scout. Pat served as a Den Leader and Committee Chair and was honored with the District Award of Merit.
Pat and Ron enjoyed hiking and backpacking as a family over the years, and their shared love of the outdoors eventually took them throughout Europe, Canada, Alaska, Panama, Costa Rica, and South Africa. Pat’s favorite trips were those visiting their son in Dresden, Germany. In 1994, they joined a hiking group that quickly became a cherished weekly ritual. Pat brought warmth and joy to the group, especially through her thoughtful birthday celebrations. She was a superb baker, treating each cake she made as a work of art, crafted with care down to the smallest detail.
Their faith journey led Pat and Ron away from Mount Olive in 1993, and they eventually joined St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach, where they became active members. In 2022, they felt called to return home and rejoined Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Over the last year, Pat required more care than Ron could provide on his own, and with the help of dedicated caregivers, she was able to continue living at home.
Pat’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She radiated a steady, loving spirit and made sure no one was ever forgotten. Her Christmas treats, always shared with love and featuring her famous toffee, reflected her generous heart. Her gentle soul, unwavering faith, integrity, compassion, and sense of humor will be cherished by all who loved her.
