Ofelia Padilla Manzo, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Known affectionately as “Fia”, “Grandma Fia”, “Ofie”, “Philsie”, Ofelia was born on January 8, 1932, in Miami, Arizona, to Felix and Antonia Padilla. Ofelia was the middle of three sisters, with her oldest sister Stella Magana (Padilla) and her younger sister Antonia Silvas (Padilla), who are lovingly remembered. Ofelia’s father, Felix Padilla, was an ILWU longshoreman and a hard-working provider for his family. Her beloved mother, Antonia Padilla, was a loving and nurturing woman who built a beautiful life rooted in care and devotion to her family. Antonia truly shaped the values Ofelia carried throughout her life—selflessness, grace, and kindness—and passed on her deep love for our Blessed Mother Mary, whom Ofelia loved to pray to and whose values she embodied throughout her life. Ofelia then moved to San Pedro, California, where she grew up and spent her childhood living on Summerland Street. She attended Barton Hill Elementary School, Bandini Elementary School, Dana Junior High School, and San Pedro High School- Class of W51. San Pedro was always home to her. Ofelia built a life rooted in faith, love, and simplicity alongside her beloved husband, Louis J. Manzo, to whom she was married for 63 years. They found their home on Sepulveda Street, near Holy Trinity Church, where her faith, family, and community were deeply intertwined. Louis was the love of her life and a proud World War II veteran who worked hard alongside Ofelia to raise their family. Their love was like no other—steadfast, gentle, and enduring. Ofelia lovingly cared for Louis in his last years, never leaving his side as he passed away in 2019, at age 95. Today, they are reunited once again, dancing and holding one another close in heaven. Louis and Ofelia were blessed with four children: their eldest daughter Evie Markulis (husband Mark Markulis); their eldest son Vincent Manzo (wife Terri Manzo); their son Lawrence Manzo; and their youngest son Thomas Manzo (wife Tina Manzo). A simple woman with a deeply loving heart, Ofelia lived a life guided by faith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and best friend, always showing up for others and always caring. She had a way of making sure everyone was okay - calling, checking in, and making sure people were fed, comfortable, and felt loved. She was a cherished grandmother to Michael Markulis (wife Leah Markulis), Matthew Letrondo Markulis (husband Patrick Letrondo Markulis), Madeline Markulis, Karlie Manzo, Haley Manzo, Jared Manzo, and Macie Manzo. In her final years, Ofelia courageously battled Alzheimer’s disease. Even through her illness, she always knew her loving family was there for her. She found comfort and joy surrounded by family, especially in the presence of her beloved grand-dogs - Birdie-Moon, Teddy, Mando, Chi, Chapo, and Hank. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Ofelia’s devoted caretakers, whose compassion and kindness meant the world to her family: Marissa, Carol, Yessie, Samantha, Patty, Susie, and Taylor. Their loving care allowed Ofelia to remain in the warm presence of her home, surrounded by the comfort and love she’d always known. We would also like to thank all of our extended family and friends who would spend time to visit and bring her meals, which we know she appreciated, as did we. Ofelia lived a quiet, faith-filled life where all truly all that mattered were the little things in life. Her gentle presence, unwavering faith, and boundless love will be forever missed and lovingly remembered. She was beautiful, funny, mighty, and showed her strength through her final days.
