Nieves Tolentino Lapastora, 87, of Carson, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2019.
She was born to Mariano and Soledad Tolentino, on August 5, 1931, in Miagao, Philippines. Nieves attended Antique High School and Iloilo Panay College in Iloilo, Philippines. She also received a diploma for Dressmaking from the Samson Fashion School in the city of Manila.
She married Joaquin L. Lapastora in 1955, and they lived together in Carson for 50 years. Nieves is survived by five children: Vivian (Mio) Paranal, of Lakewood; Georgeanne (Rodger) Schwecke, of Cerritos; Christine (Derrick) Gray of San Carlos; Joaquin (Dora) Lapastora of Lakewood; and Mario “Myk” Lapastora, of Lakewood; ten grandchildren; Randle, Keith, Rachel, Lauren, Bryan, Ryan, Ricky, Jeremy, Micaiah and Jett; and great-grandson, Joseph. She is also survived by her three brothers, Arturo, Ricardo, Francisco, and her sister Zoraida all residents of the Philippines. Nieves was predeceased by her loving husband in 1992.
Nieves was a gifted seamstress, and a proud member of the City of Carson Friendship club, and of the Pacific Islander Dance and Choral Ensemble. Nieves was a loving and kind person who will be missed by all who knew her.
Viewing and Rosary will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Green Hills Chapel, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church, in Carson. The burial services will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
