Nellie Jean Trice was born on September 5, 1939, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Jacob and Cotel Johnson. Nellie was the third of ten children, three boys and seven girls. In 1942, at the age of three her father moved their family to San Pedro, California for better opportunities.

Nellie Jean, being the oldest girl, a role that shaped her natural leadership, resilience, and nurturing spirit from an early age. She carried those qualities throughout her life, always standing as a source of guidance and care for those around her. She was a loving sister, always present for her family. Nellie Jean attended public schools in the LA unified school district. Her schools included Cabrillo Avenue Elementary, Dana Junior High School and San Pedro High School.

Nellie accepted Christ early in her life and was baptized as a child at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in San Pedro.

Nellie worked various jobs throughout her life including, Mattel Toy Store, Gemco, Teen Post, JC Penny, and a caregiver. She volunteered at senior centers, Barton Hill and San Pedro High School. Nellie met Don Scoggin, and from their love they produced two children.

Nellie married Jimmy Lee Trice January 26,1962; they met at Teal's Bar B Que Cafe, and from that union were born five children, who were the pride and joy of her life. They remained married for 48 years.

Together, they loved and raised five children. Nellie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devoted and loving mother who raised her children with strength, and

unwavering love.

Nellie was a longtime resident of San Pedro, where she was deeply involved in the community and well known by many. She believed in showing up, helping others, and staying connected. Whether through neighborhood gatherings, community events, or simply being someone, others could rely on, Nellie made a lasting impact on the San Pedro community and beyond.

She lived life on her own terms-boldly, unapologetically, and with joy. She especially loved playing bingo, a pastime that brought her laughter, friendly competition, and cherished moments with friends. Nellie Jean Trice will be remembered as a great mother, a loving sister, a valued member of the San Pedro community, and a woman who lived authentically and fully. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Trice, Son, Darren "Jimbo"Lee Trice, Grandson, Ramel Jr., parents, Jacob and Clotel Johnson, brothers Oscar and Charles Johnson, and sisters Dolores Goolsby, Dorothy Johnson, and Linda Alexander. Nellie leaves behind a host of family and lifelong friends to cherish her memory. Including her siblings: Barbara Isley, Jacqueline Moore (Pete) and Micheal Johnson (Melba). Children: Don Scoggin (Holly), Deborah Scoggin, Kendra Trice, Jonnee Trice, Audra Renee Trice, and Shondra White; Grandchildren: Damond, Deanna, Ramel, Darren Jr., Joquise, Cheyenne, A'Teryn, Jacob, Daytanae and Amauri. Great Grand Children: Damond Jr., Selah, Jayden, Levin, Laleh, Ava, Josiah, Ashton, Malachi, Aria, and Mason.

She lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and independence. You are all her favorites! Fly Butterfly
