Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody passed away on August 10, 2025, in Torrance, CA, surrounded by love and great music. Born in Los Angeles in 1927, she lived most of her life in southern California, except for her college years at Cal (UC Berkeley). After college, she returned to southern California, where she met and married Robert “Bob” Brody.
In the late 1960’s, the family moved to Torrance in support of Bob working for Harvey Aluminum. Once settled in Torrance, Mimi began volunteering at Torrance Memorial. It was here that she found her community and sense of purpose. She was a past-president of the Auxiliary and co-manager of the gift shop several times. She volunteered in the out-patient pharmacy, worked at the information desks, and worked in the gift shop for many years as the “plush” buyer. She was an active volunteer until the end, working her regular shift a week before her passing. She was the longest serving volunteer in the history of TMMC, achieving 56 years and over 33,000 hours of volunteer service.
As a life-long South Bay resident, she loved the beach, the sunshine, and the mild weather.
She is survived by her daughters Marilyn and Jill, as well as her grandchildren Rebecca and Daniel, and great-granddaughter Karlee.
Services were held at Green Hills on August 13, and a reception was held at Torrance Memorial on August 14. Family, friends, volunteers and hospital staff gathered to remember Mimi, share stories, and honor her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Torrance Memorial Foundation in her honor. We take comfort in remembering her well-lived life. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
May her memory be a blessing.
