Mary Yutronich passed away on Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 about 3 months before her 90th birthday. She was born in the village of Božakovo in Slovenia on February 25, 1932, and was the eldest of 11 children born to Jozef and Marija Nemanič.
Mary was a devout Catholic with a special devotion to Jesus and Mary. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro for many years and was active in the parish’s Ave Maria Society.
Mary came to the United States in October 1957 sponsored by her father’s Uncle John Nemanich and his wife Isabel. She met John “Ivo” Yutronich in San Pedro and they were married on March 1, 1958. Mary was a homemaker and was married for over 55 years and raised five children. John and Mary retired to Homeland, California in 1989 and enjoyed a rural lifestyle raising sheep and chickens.
The family took Mary on a trip to Slovenia and Croatia in 2019 to visit family where she had a fantastic time. During the trip she requested that the entire family visit Medjugorje, a small town in Bosnia Herzegovina where the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing and giving messages to the world. Mary was determined to hike to the top of the hill where the Virgin Mary has appeared.
Mary is survived by her five children: Teresa Henkhaus (Ron); Johnny Yutronich (Cristina); Jerry Yutronich (Laura); Joseph Yutronich; and James Yutronich. Her Grandchildren are: Patrick Yutronich; Ryan Salazar; Daniel Yutronich; Jared Yutronich; Victoria Yutronich; Audrey Yutronich; and Erin Henkhaus. Mary is also survived by the following siblings: Fr. Jernej Nemanič; Martin Nemanič; Anton Nemanič; Nežka Lenčič; and Cvetka Nemanič all of Slovenia; Ann Fiamengo of Lomita, California; Maida Slobodnik of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews in the United States and Slovenia.
In lieu of flowers, Mary would prefer Masses said for her soul or a donation to a favorite charity.
