Martha Alice Finlay, fondly known to many as "Grandma" passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Victorville, California, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will forever resonate within the hearts of her family and friends. Born on August 20, 1935, in Oklahoma, and moving to California by the age of eight, Martha lived a life filled with purpose and marked by tremendous strength.

Throughout her years, Martha embraced a variety of roles, showcasing her hardworking spirit in various jobs, most notably at Thriftys, where she dedicated over 20 years. Her life was always accompanied by a sense of humor, intelligence, and unfaltering faith—qualities that radiated from her to everyone around her. Although her formal education was cut short at the age of fourteen due to her marriage, Martha carried immense knowledge and a wise perspective that profoundly impacted those who sought her guidance.

Martha found her greatest joy in her love for Jesus and her family. She raised five of her own children, Patricia Witt, Richard Finlay Jr., Francine Finlay-Alvarez, Frank Finlay, and John Finlay, along with her three cherished grandsons, Manuel Espinoza Jr., Raymond Finlay-Alvarez, and Paul Alvarez. She was the proud matriarch of a large family that includes over 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who share fond memories of the laughter-filled dinners and the comfort of her cooking. Grandma Martha’s home was a sanctuary for all who entered, where love effortlessly flowed.

Her loving nature extended beyond her immediate family; she was a constant provider of support, always ready to assist friends and neighbors alike. Martha's selflessness defined her existence, whether it was through simple acts of kindness or heartfelt conversations, nurturing the next generation with her wisdom and experience. Known for her strong Christian faith, she dedicated her life to spreading the word of God. Her passion for Jesus and her undying belief in spreading love was reflected in her every action, and she took great pride in educating others about His teachings, ensuring her loved ones would one day greet her in heaven.

Martha endured numerous life trials, yet her toughness and stubbornness allowed her to emerge stronger, guided by her faith. She often said that caring for children was her calling, and her dedication to them brought her immense fulfillment. With a heart brimming with love, she believed in the importance of faith and family, holding firm to the idea that everyone deserves kindness and compassion.

As she journeyed through life, Martha always held an optimistic view, looking forward to the day when she would dance in heaven, meeting Jesus with open arms. Her passing marks a profound loss, yet the legacy of her spirit and the lessons she imparted will continue to guide her loved ones.

Martha is survived by her beloved children Richard Finlay Jr., Francine Finlay-Alvarez, and John Finlay, along with an expansive lineage of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forth her heritage of love. She was reunited in heaven with her husband, Richard, her mother, Margaret, her daughter, Patti, her son, Frankie, her son-in-laws Raymond and Buddy, her brothers, Henry and Leroy, as well as many other loved ones.

Celebration of Martha's life will be held on January 31, 2026, commencing with a Funeral Service at 9:00 AM at Green Hills Mortuary & Memorial Chapel, with a Graveside Service to follow at 10:15 AM at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Though she may no longer be physically present, Grandma Martha’s spirit will forever remain a guiding star in the lives she touched. Her family and friends will remember her not with sorrow but with gratitude for the time they shared, knowing she is now their strongest, wisest guardian angel, watching over them with love from above.
