Marjorie Marie Spengler passed away on August 30, 2026 at the age of 96 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Marge was born April 24, 1930 in Sadorus, Illinois to Kathryn and Henry Boyle where she was raised on a farm along with her brother Ed and sisters Mary and Pat. In 1948 she graduated as the Salutatorian of her high school class and enrolled at the University of Illinois where she became the first woman to join the Beta Alpha Psi honorary accountancy fraternity. After graduating with a B.S. in Accountancy, she worked as a Financial Analyst for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan before moving to California to work for Hughes Aircraft. In 1957 Marge met Stewart Spengler, also an employee at Hughes Aircraft, at a party in Marina del Rey through her sister Pat. The two were married later that year and moved to Rancho Palos Verdes where they soon welcomed a son and daughter, Steven and Susan.

While raising their kids, Marge managed to keep up her professional skills both through volunteer work and as a part-time employee of a CPA firm. After Stu’s retirement from the aerospace industry in 1991, the two spent much of their time traveling the world while conducting genealogical research. These travels led from musty county courthouses in the Midwest to discoveries of ancestors dating back to the 1600s in Ireland, France, Germany, and England. After the arrival of grandchildren in 1994, Marge and Stu made frequent trips to Hawaii to see them while also hosting many family gatherings at their home in California.

Marge is survived by her son Steven (Martha), daughter Susan (Mike) and grandchildren Sam and Sophia. Stewart passed away in 2016 and will be interned with Marge at Green Hills memorial park. A celebration of life gathering will be held this Thanksgiving at Marge’s home in Rancho Palos Verdes.
