Maritza Montenegro, born June 18, 1972, was a wonderful, strong, extraordinary woman and a loving mother to her two children. She was sent to beautiful, eternal paradise on September 22, 2025. She was 53 years old.
Maritza was an extremely perseverant, diligent, intelligent, and powerful person. From a young age, she was the smartest out of all her siblings, bringing happiness to her parents with every diploma and certificate that she brought home. She was academically successful and was fortunate to eventually pass that intelligence down to her own children.
Despite the difficulties that she had growing up, Maritza grew to be an independent, brave, and confident individual. She knew how to defend and protect herself, and those difficulties hardened her and drove her towards her goals. She had dreams of pursuing law, but with what opportunities she had available, she instead decided to pursue medicine. She studied hard and worked diligently before earning her Bachelor's degree in university and becoming a professional in obstetrics. Maritza used her education and knowledge to help those in need. In Peru, she would travel to small, remote cities, working for the nation and bringing aid to those who needed it. She volunteered for the Red Cross in Peru and did what she could to bring people help and health by whatever means, showing her empathetic and caring spirit.
After having her very first child, Maritza moved to the U.S. to pursue a better life for herself and for her son. Despite having to leave him behind, she spent every hour, every minute, working tirelessly, devoting every second of hard work to make sure that her son could have a bright future. She changed his life for the better, bringing him with her and raising him on her own, proving her strength and independence. After having her second child, she was married and led her family as they worked to raise her daughter. Her two children were, and are, her entire world. She gave them whatever they needed, whatever they wanted, and she fought through battles silently that even her own children didn't know about. Yet, her tough spirit and resilience allowed her to continue supporting her children. She cherished every accomplishment, framed every diploma and award, saved every small memory and keepsake. She loved her children more than anything. She taught them how to love themselves, pushed them to take opportunities, showed them how to embrace the past, the present, and the future. She made sure they were never discouraged and supported every decision they wanted to make so long as it kept them healthy and happy. She is their hero.
On her own, Maritza was a charismatic individual who brought joy to those around her. She was a very romantic person, loving nature, literature, music, animals, and the arts. She loved to laugh and smile, always surrounded herself with joyful people, and she lovingly teased her family. Her family was what she loved the most, what she prioritized, and they would have never changed a thing about her.
Maritza's indomitable, unyielding spirit persists beyond the realms of life and death. Her memory burns bright in the minds of those who cherished her, and the love that she gifted her children drives them for the rest of their lives, gives them power, and reminds them that since they are her children, they are capable of anything they put their minds to. She is survived and cherished by her son, Andre Fernandez, her daughter, Emily Koguchi, and her husband, Javier Koguchi. She is forever remembered by Liliana Montenegro Bernal, Marlon Montenegro Bernal, Denisse Montenegro Bernal, Yanet Montenegro Bernal, and all of her wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Ninfa De La Luz Bernal Azurza, her father, Leonel Montenegro Samame, and her brothers, Jorge Eduardo Montenegro Bernal and Ronal Eduardo Montenegro.
She will forever be loved and never, ever forgotten. She has been carried by the angels to a place high above, her own paradise where she can rest and be at peace. Her hard work has paid off for her children, and she was a very successful and accomplished person. She lived a beautiful life. Her love, blood, and soul will be carried with her family and future generations for the rest of their lives. As long as her memory is eternal, she will never truly die.
