Marilyn (Kennerson) Grant, age 74, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s on September 30, 2025. Born and raised in San Pedro, California, Marilyn was the youngest child of Ethel W. Kennerson and Henry “Babe” Kennerson. Marilyn grew up in a big family with five siblings, Robert Kennerson, Carl Kennerson, Kathleen Mardesich, Fred Kennerson, and Joyce Holstein.
After graduating from San Pedro High School in 1968, Marilyn attended Harbor College where she met her husband, Tom Grant. They married in 1971 and together they built a life in San Pedro. They had one daughter, Wendy. In 2010, Tom and Marilyn moved to Tustin to be closer to their grandchildren. Tom passed away in 2012.
Marilyn was a nurse and a small business owner before devoting twenty years of service to the County of Orange, Child Support Services. Known for her spunky disposition and big smile, Marilyn could light up any room and bring joy to her friends and family. Marilyn was an animal lover who enjoyed cake decorating, crafting, sewing, and shopping. Above all, her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren whom she spoiled endlessly.
Marilyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2020, and while the disease gradually took pieces of her, her loving spirit and humor remained. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Grant) Joe, her son-in-law, Darrin Joe, her grandchildren, Scott Joe and Whitney Joe, and her brother, Fred Kennerson.
Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Saddleback Chapel, located at 220 E. Main Street, Tustin, California. Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private ceremony at Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro.
