Our Dearest Marilou was born on July 2, 1959 in Caroan, Gonzaga, Cagayan in the Philippines, and raised in the Province of Cagayan. She graduated from the Lyceum of Aparri in Cagayan in 1976, then studied Nursing before emigrating to the U.S. in August of 1978.
She lived in Pittsburg, CA, then married in the Philippines, and then also lived in Oahu, HI, before settling in Carson, CA where she raised a daughter and two sons. She enjoyed spending time with family, listening to new music, going to concerts, traveling, mentoring up and coming musicians and artists, and creating ideas for her next graphic novel. She also loved shopping, trying new foods, cooking, gardening, and philanthropy.
She held many positions in the Finance/Banking industry and her longest tenure was twenty years as a data processor with Wells Fargo. She was a hard worker, made many friends and was loved by so many that have crossed her path.
Marilou was selfless, passionate, loving, generous, vibrant, creative, inspiring, entrepreneurial, a strong incredible mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a beautiful and artistic soul! She would give her last penny to a stranger and went out of her way to help others in need. She loved to surprise family members and friends with gifts and often could not wait for one's birthday before giving you the gift ahead of time! She had a creative talent and enjoyed coming up with ideas for the next song or graphic novel. She had forged so many dear connections and impacted so many so positively not only in life, but also in the music and art community providing mentorship with up and coming musicians and artists. She had owned a Filipino restaurant, a music/skate shop where she showcased local bands known as The Intro House, wrote and sang music for her EP "Citizen Mary", and produced a graphic novel "Immortal". Marilou was always looking towards her next big impact to the world or local community.
On September 25, 2025, Marilou passed away peacefully surrounded by family after her courageous battle with cervical cancer.
She joins her parents Perfecta Magas Salazar and Panfilo Purugganan Del Rosario, brother Bonifacio Salazar Barquilla in heaven.
She leaves behind her former husband Geoffrey Romano and their children, daughter Louella Romano, son George Andrew Romano and his wife Brittany Romano, son Joshua Dominic Romano and his wife Joy LePage, grandchildren Logan Romano and Sequoia Romano, siblings Arnel Salazar, Imelda Salazar, and Domingo Barquilla, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will forever be in our hearts and will be incredibly missed by all who were lucky to have known and been loved by her!
