Veronica "Bonnie" Michaelis

September 5, 1923 — March 22, 2017

Veronica "Bonnie" Michaelis passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, peacefully at her home of 70 years in Carson. At 93.5 years old she lived a full and happy life with 3 generations of loving family she and her husband Edward Michaelis (preceded in death) raised.


She was born on the Filbin Family farm in Heartwell Nebraska on September 5, 1923.
Her mother Catherine was also born on the Filbin Family farm on April 15, 1888. For Bonnie's 80th birthday she had the opportunity to visit the farm and see the room where she was born. Nebraska presented a plaque to the family for over 100 years of ownership and occupancy by the Filbin family.

Bonnie was a modern women who balanced family and a successful career of close to 15 years as a dental assistant for Dr. Foltz, in Wilmington, CA. She was a master at comforting those patients fearful of the "Dentist" especially young children.


After her husband's death in 1985 she joined a golf class at LA Harbor College that was life altering. She not only gained the skills to be a good golfer she made life time friends. She was a Charter Member of the Cohn Golf Group and traveled to Hawaii, Canada, South Carolina and throughout California golfing and expanding friendships. Bonnie was also a longtime member of the Harbor Women's Golf Club where she golfed every Tuesday. She enjoyed the game of golf but more importantly she loved the friendships and the time spent with all the ladies.


Bonnie is survived by her four children: Rita Brown (Phil) San Pedro, Tom Michaelis (Donna) Lomita, John Michaelis and Marilyn Michaelis Carson. Three Grandchildren, David Brown (Kaori) Oshamanbe, Japan, Greg Michaelis (Monika) Lakewood and Maureen Michaelis Lomita. Five Great-Grandchildren, Tommy Michaelis, Nicole Michaelis, Michael Michaelis, Amanda Miller and Leo Brown. Beloved friend and family member Marilyn Cohn Palos Verdes. Special thank you to Kim Griggs for her love and support she provided Bonnie and her family over the last two years.


Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Mary Star Church located at 870 8th Street, (enter parking lot on 7th street), San Pedro, following the Mass, interment at Green Hills Memorial Park at 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes.
