Helen Herrera Sloan “Nena”, 64 years of age, passed away on December 3, 2018 with her family by her side. She was the wife of Gary Sloan, Sr. They shared 46 years of marriage together.
Born in San Pedro, CA, she was the daughter of Marshall & Connie Herrera. She attended San Pedro High School, class of ’72. She was employed at ILWU Local 13 & 63 as a Longshoreman, and Marine Clerk. Her time with ILWU amassed 32 years retiring in October 2016.
She will be remembered for her love for her family, her big bright smile, sense of humor, strong work ethic, her integrity, selflessness, giving herself in service of others, and her huge warm heart.
She is survived by her husband Gary Sloan Sr., daughter Monica Sloan Sandoval, son-in-law Agustin Sandoval, son Gary Sloan Jr., her grandchildren Amanda Sandoval, Antonia Sloan, Adrian Sandoval, Lucia Sloan, Gabriel Sloan, Marisa Sandoval, and her brother Marshall Herrera.
The Memorial Services will be held at Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel on December 14, 2018, located at 27501 S. Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. There will be a private family visitation from 4:30PM-6:00PM with a public visitation and rosary from 6:00PM-8:30PM.
