Lynn Jean (Carney) Scollo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 at the age of 80.
Born on November 28, 1944, in San Marino, California, to Aileen and Eugene Carney, Lynn grew up surrounded by love and laughter alongside her younger sister, Carol. She attended Henry E. Huntington Middle School and San Marino High School before boldly traveling to the University of Oregon to earn an undergraduate degree in English, where she became a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She later earned her master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern California, a reflection of her lifelong dedication to teaching.
In 1967, Lynn met the love of her life, Joseph Scollo. The two were married on December 21, 1968, at the home of her parents, a day that marked the beginning of 56 years of devotion, joy and partnership.
Lynn’s career as an educator was one of her greatest callings. She touched countless young lives as a second- and third-grade teacher at South Shores Elementary and Fries Avenue School, remembered by many for her kindness, patience, and enthusiasm for learning. After retiring in 2005, she continued to share her passion for discovery as a docent at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, where she was awarded Docent of the Year in 2012.
Lynn was a woman of many interests and great heart. She cherished music, reading, traveling, art and culture, but above all else, her family was the center of her life. She was exceptionally proud of being a seventh generation Angeleno and was incredibly dedicated to discovering her family’s rich history and genealogy. She found immense joy in time spent with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren and she created a legacy of warmth, love, and tradition that will live on through them.
She is survived by her devoted husband Joe; her loving daughters Suzanne Brown and Stephanie Venti; her grandchildren Jacob, Alexis, Juniper, and Everly; and her sister, Carol Olson.
Services will be held at Green Hills Mortuary on Tuesday, October 7 at 11:30 AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Point Vincente Interpretive Center or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Lynn’s kindness, grace, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
