Listen to Obituary

Lupe Hill, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on August 8, 2026, surrounded by her immediate family and loved ones.

Born Lupe Echavarria in Torrance, CA on January 19, 1957, she was the tenth of eleven children born in her family, and grew up in the town of South Redondo Beach. Lupe lived almost her entire life in the South Bay region of Los Angeles. She first attended Bishop Montgomery High School, then transferred and ultimately graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1975.  After several years of work, she later returned to school and gained admission to The California State University at Long Beach, where she particularly loved painting and the study of art. She then put her education on pause to stay at home and care for her children.  She proudly saw two of her children receive their degrees from CSULB, and a third receive his from Point Loma Nazarene University.  Lupe had a true love for learning that she exercised all of her life and always shared with her children.  Lupe worked at many jobs in her life, though one of the most memorable was working at the Great Western Forum in the early 1980’s, where she saw many concerts as well as Laker games from the Showtime era.  She also worked at several airlines at LAX.  Lupe had many great and sometimes humorous stories of meeting and/or literally bumping into famous celebrities at those jobs.  Lupe also met her future husband while both were working at LAX for Air New Zealand.

In her early 20’s Lupe accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  From that time until the end of her life, she devoted her life to Jesus and acknowledged Him in everything.  Lupe will always be remembered by those that knew her as loving, authentic, and always thinking about the needs of others before her own.  She always provided a safe place for her family and friends to come and feel welcome.  She was a beacon of unconditional love and wisdom for her family and dear friends.  She loved to shower others with hospitality and kindness, be it for family, friends, neighbors, church members, and friends of her children.  It filled her with joy to give to others.  She always liked to invite people that were single or far away from their own families over for holiday dinners or get-togethers.  Lupe had friendships that lasted for decades, but was always able and willing to make new friends.

Lupe loved music and passed on that love to her children, often sacrificing to see that they had opportunities for professional music lessons.  She loved worship music, but also popular music classics from the 60’s and 70’s.  She was very artistic and enjoyed painting, baking, and cooking.  She also loved Disneyland, especially during Christmas.  Every Christmas she excitedly made her home a beautiful place with all of the Christmas decorations and designs.

Lupe leaves behind her husband of 36 years, Christopher Hill, her three children, Jasmine Del Rosario, 48, Eric Hill, 35, and Michael Hill, 29.  She also leaves behind her one precious grandson, Jacob Avina, 25.  Lupe is deeply missed by her family and her many friends, but we are greatly comforted knowing that she is in eternity with her Lord and savior.

Those wishing to honor Lupe’s memory are welcome to send flowers or, if they prefer, make a donation in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse.  We are grateful for your thoughtfulness and support as we celebrate her life. You can directly donate to Lupe’s memorial page on Samaritans Purse link below:
