Everybody's "Champ".
Luis Anthony Gonzalez 6/22/38 - 8/16/25
On June 22, 1938 our Dad came into this world in a small house in redondo Beach. He was born on the day of the rematch of Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. The first fight ended with Louis losing. As this was not only a boxing match but the symbolism of American democracy against Nazi Germany. With our grandma giving birth in back room our grandfather and family members in the living room all had their ears to the radio like everyone else in the country........Joe Louis wins the fight and our dad comes into this world. He would never be called by his birth name again by friends and family. He was our "Champ". He truly was a champion. A champion is someone that people look to for guidance and safety. In other words someone you look up to and want to be like. That's how we saw dad, just like he saw his dad. Hard working family men. He was shy and gentle, although you didn't want him mad. Cared deeply for all of us. Loved his children and family. He was so happy to have grandchildren and even more blessed with great grandchildren. He had 5 kids, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Oh how he enjoyed his cousins. Believe us, he had a story about every one of you. Imagine the party he will be having with our departed family. Although our mom and his marriage ended. He loved her forever. They had a family and built a business that carried us through our lives. A pretty good life. We were blessed with many things. As we were all blessed to have such a great patriarch. Our dad was never a man of few words, action meant more to him. He might not admit to you that he loved you, but you knew by a couple of actions..... Number one he was taking care of your needs. Number two he was teasing you gently. Like when you would go visit and he would look up at you and say, "what do you want?" Grinning from ear to ear." With his beautiful smile. We can only hope to be as cool as you. Because pops you were the coolest! We are who we are because of you. And we think you did an awesome job.
