Lawrence Takeshi Yamane

July 8, 1945 - August 6, 2025

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence T. Yamane, who passed peacefully in his home on August 6th, 2025, from natural causes, in Torrance, California at the age of 80.

Lawrence was born in Gardena, and when he married he moved to Torrance, eventually getting the nickname “Lawrence of Torrance” from friends and family. He was a loving and devoted husband of 38 years, a step-father, son, brother, uncle, and a grandfather. He was hard-working, loyal, and would do anything he could to help the ones he loved. He lived a very full life from a young age, and always lived life like there was no tomorrow.

When he was younger, he loved to go to clubs and parties, all while listening to only the best Doo-Wop songs. He loved being a husband and grandfather more than anything, showing them the love of a thousand lifetimes. Lawrence was married to his late wife, Diana Yamane for 38 years, and she was the love of his life. They always had a good time no matter the event, as long as they were together.

He loved take his granddaughter to museums, theme parks, picnics, concerts, carnivals, and would always give the biggest of hugs. Every time his granddaughter would have bad dreams, he would always chase them away with a lullaby and a big hug. He always had life advice, and a way of talking for hours on end about anything and everything. All in all, he was the best grandpa a child could ask for.

Lawrence enjoyed trips to casinos, playing the Keno machines, while his wife would play the poker machines. He was a very skilled pool player who loved to teach pool, and play pool with friends and strangers. Lawrence was a food lover through and through. He loved cooking, but loved eating it more, with an appetite never ending. He was an avid tennis player, and also a devoted watcher of tennis whenever it was on, no matter how late the games ran through.

Lawrence is survived by his granddaughters Lea, Tiffany, and Angelina, his sister JoAnn Yamada and her husband Ed Yamada, his brother Steven Yamane and his wife De Ann Yamane, and his sister Sanaye Doi, including many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews/nieces.

Lawrence will always be remembered for his loving energy, unwavering loyalty, and his ability to always make you feel better even in the worst situations. His presence brought warmth and love to every room, along with laughs and jokes. He will be extremely missed by all those that knew him.

There will be a private ceremony, and immediate family only, for his service at Green Hills Memorial, to honor his memory.
