Laurence B. Donoghue aka “Larry,” 84 years old, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, entered into the presence of Our Lord on July 4, 2026.

Larry was born in Queens, New York to Lillian and Laurence Donoghue. The Donoghue family included his siblings Christine, Elizabeth and Peter who came to California in 1954. From an early age, Larry demonstrated a strong work ethic, unwavering integrity, and a deep love for his family.

Larry built a successful career in law. After receiving his Juris Doctor (JD) degree, he graduated with a Masters of Law in 1972 from George Washington University. In 1971, Larry worked for the U.S Dept of Justice in Washington D.C. He returned to California in 1973 and was employed by the California Judicial Council, working to improve court processes and procedures. In 1974, he began working as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County. He spent more than 24 years as a prosecutor, after which he opened up his private practice as a defense attorney, practicing criminal, family and immigration law in Rancho Palos Verdes for 25 years.

Larry served the Los Angeles community as an attorney for 50 years. He was very well respected for not only for his dedication and professionalism but also for his kindness, humility and willingness to help others. Whether offering advice, lending a helping hand, or simply making those around him laugh, Laurence had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and put a smile on their face.

Larry’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather (known as, “Big Grandpa,”) a brother, uncle and a cherished friend. He enjoyed singing, performing and participating in The Lion’s Club, through which he served his community, including his service as the Lion’s Club District Governor of MD4-L3 2013-2014.

His Christian faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He faithfully served the Lord in many capacities throughout the years and found great joy in ministering to others. As an ordained minister, he devoted himself to teaching Sunday Bible studies, encouraging others through God’s Word, and living out his faith with humility and compassion. He was a proud member of the Rolling Hills Covenant Church Choir and cherished the opportunity to use his gifts in worship. He also enjoyed portraying Mayor Shinn in the church’s production of, “The Music Man,” a role that reflected his warm spirit and love of fellowship. Larry was also honored to receive a sponsorship from the Rolling Hills Covenant Church’s Cup of Water Ministry, a ministry that blessed and supported him during his journey. His unwavering faith, servant’s heart, and love for the Lord left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He lived a life marked by compassion, generosity, integrity, strength, and unwavering devotion to both his family and his faith. Although his family deeply mourns his passing, they also celebrate a life that was richly lived, a life defined by love, service, perseverance, and an enduring trust in God. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the family he cherished so deeply, and the example of faith he leaves behind. While we grieve his absence, we find peace and comfort in knowing that Larry has finished his earthly race and now rests in the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith has become sight, and he now experiences the fullness of God’s joy, perfect peace, and the promise of eternal life in Heaven. Heaven has welcomed a faithful servant, and we remain forever grateful for the gift of his life.

Until we meet again, we will cherish his memory, honor his example, and hold fast to God’s promise that all who believe in Christ will one day be reunited forever in heaven.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Bhee Donoghue of over 21 years, his 8 children Laurence, Gigi, Annie, John, Matt, Andrew, Katie and Doreen and his 11 grandchildren Rayley, Lilla, Andre, Savvy, Kyla, Tysen, Luke, Molly, Chloe, Brent and Miles.

A viewing will be held on August 16, 2026. Funeral services will be held on August 21, 2026, followed by the internment and a Celebration of Life.
