his kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed.
Kenneth "Ken" Kenyei Fukuhara, of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2026, at the age of 90. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather whose kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed.
Born in Makawao, Maui, Hawaii, on May 19, 1936, Ken dedicated his life to hard work, service, and family. In 1958, he joined the United States Air Force, and met his wife, Kiyoko in 1966, while stationed in Japan. As an aircraft maintenance technician, he proudly served his country for 21 years before retiring in April 1979. Following his military career, Ken continued his strong work ethic with the United States Postal Service, where he worked the graveyard shift as a mail sorter for 23 years before retiring. He was known as a hardworking man who could fix just about anything with his hands and was always willing to lend his skills to help others.
Outside of work, Ken found great joy in the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he began taking his family camping and fishing when his son was just three years old. Those early family adventures grew into cherished annual father-and-son fishing and gambling trips to Mammoth Lakes and Lake Tahoe, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Ken also had a passion for growing Cymbidium orchids. His backyard became home to an impressive collection of award-winning plants, reflecting the patience and care he brought to everything he did. He was an active member of both the Gardena and Torrance Cymbidium Clubs and faithfully served as Treasurer of the Gardena Cymbidium Club for many years.
Ken found great joy in the outdoors.
Above all, Ken treasured his family. His greatest pride and joy was his grandson, Koa. From the moment Koa entered his life, Ken's face would light up whenever he was around him. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandson, creating a special bond that brought him immense happiness in his later years.
He is survived by his wife, Kiyoko Fukuhara; his son, Ted Fukuhara; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Fukuhara; his grandson, Koa Fukuhara; his sister, Elaine Sato; his sister, Mildred Okamura; and his brother-in-law, George Okamura.
Ken will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, remarkable work ethic, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held on August 28th at 12:00 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park. Family and friends are encouraged to wear Hawaiian attire as we celebrate Ken’s life.
