Karis Edgington Say-Cavecche

October 11, 1935 — February 19, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Karis Say-Cavecche, 89, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2025, at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California.

Born in Greenwich, New York, on October 11, 1935, Karis was the beloved daughter of Charles Edgington, a Methodist minister, and Alma (Hawthorne) Edgington. Karis earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, NY and graduate degree in Social Work from Smith College, MA.
Karis married Manuel Say, and together they relocated to Los Angeles to pursue their careers and build a family. The couple shared a deep love for travel, particularly throughout the mountainous regions of the western United States and internationally, including several visits to Manuel’s native Far East Asia.
Karis converted to Catholicism and became a devoted, active and beloved member of St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. She volunteered and ushered at mass for years, enjoyed church functions, and cherished her St. John Fisher community of friends. She also volunteered her time and efforts at the PV Resale thrift shop, where her kindness, generosity and warm spirit made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Karis was preceded in death by her first husband, Manuel Say, and her second husband, Eugene Cavecche. She is survived by her son, Jerome Say of Los Angeles, CA, her daughter, Catherine (Say) Cole of Gilbert, AZ, and five grandchildren. She also leaves behind stepchildren, extended family, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.

A viewing/visitation will be held on March 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, followed by a graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Park.
Karis’ love for family, faith, and community will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed.
