Joyce Miyagawa Oyama-Chung was born on Terminal Island on August 19, 1938 to Muneo and Kazuko Kai-Miyagawa. In 1942, the Muneo Miyagawa family was interned at Manzanar Relocation Center until 1945. After World War II had ended, the family settled in San Pedro, California where Joyce attended Barton Hill Elementary School, Dana Junior High School and San Pedro High School. She finished her education at Long Beach City College Business and Technology Division. She worked at various companies as a bookkeeper and ended her career at the California DMV.

Her son Derek was born in 1968 and they resided in Gardena, California where she met Darrell Chung. Darrell and Joyce moved to Banning, California in 2016 where she lived until her death in February, 2026.

Joyce is survived by her son, Derek Oyama, brother, Muneto Miyagawa and sister, Linda Miyagawa-Sako  and brother in law Roy Sako. Also survived by her extended Chung family – Marla, Cheryl, Lori and Charmaine. Thank you all for being a part of Joyce’s family.
