Jose, lovingly known as "Pempe" Luib was born in 1940 at Sternberg General Hospital in Manila. He immigrated to California in 1959, where he worked alongside his father, Petrinillo Luib, on a grape-picking farm in Delano.
Shortly after arriving in the United States, Jose was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and Vietnam until 1966.
Following his military service, Jose worked with early COBOL computer systems at Crocker Bank. He later went on to manage a post office in Culver City, where he spent many years before retiring.
Jose was known for his beautiful singing voice, often compared to his favorite singer, Johnny Mathis. A lover of pop culture, he enjoyed American music standards and trips to the cinema. He especially appreciated comedy greats like George Carlin and Don Rickles.
Above all, Jose loved his family and friends. He was a natural storyteller who found joy in making others laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Flora; daughter, Erika; son, Casey; son-in-law, Jim; and grandson, Joshua.
