John B. McNaughton Sr. passed away peacefully at home March 8th 2026. He was 93 years old, born in North Adams Mass. July 4th 1932, (Fitting as he was the first McNaughton of this family to be born in the USA).
John attended the University of Mass. and MIT and then happened into his life long career as a Computer Programer. He shared his programing talents helping Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI). Through LAMI he shared his passion for sailing, joining them on the Tall Ships program teaching kids about sailing.
John also known as “Jack” was a very active member of the Buccaneer Yacht Club in San Pedro Calif. And attended regular meetings of the Port of Los Angeles Community Advisory Committee in support of the Club. Besides sailing his boat, he was also an avid car enthusiast belonging to more than one Morgan Car Club and a Lotus Car Club.
John and his wife Gladys traveled extensively back and forth across the country in their 1966 Morgan 4/4, attending MOG events in more states than can be listed here. They attended events in New Zealand and In Scotland (with their Car). And in 1994 they drove the Morgan around the world.
John had amazing smarts, brilliant really!! And friends have been quoted as saying “he’s the smartest man I have ever met”. Beside smarts he had a great sense of humor & could be a prankster. John is survived in life by 5 children, Ed (wife Dev.). Jean (husband Jeff), John (wife Kim), David (wife Marie) And Margaret (husband Mike). Also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins.
John is preceded in death by his wife Gladys E. Rice McNaughton.
