John Harlan Goss passed away on April 10, 2017. He was 63 years of age, and he resided in Harbor City, California.
John was born in Torrance, California on July 12, 1953 to Donald and Barbara Goss. He attended Howard Wood elementary school and graduated from Torrance High School in 1971.
John worked as a Refinery Operator for Gulf Oil Company in Santa Fe Springs from 1974 to 1991; and for Valero Energy Corporation in Wilmington, California from 1996 until his death. During the past 5 years at Valero, John worked on special assignment projects and trained many of his fellow workers in refinery operations. John was valued for his strong work ethic, his attention to detail, and for his commitment to safe work practices in refinery operations.
John enjoyed his work at Valero. He also enjoyed working on home and yard improvement projects and helping his family members and friends. John was known for his generosity to family, co-workers, and friends – and for his good sense of humor.
John is survived by his sister, Kathleen Caldwell; his brother, Donald Goss, Jr.; sister-in-law, Mary Goss; nephew David Caldwell, Jr. and his wife, Kristin; and grandniece, Miranda Caldwell.
A memorial service will be held in the Green Hills Memorial Park Historic Church on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to one of his favorite charities – the Disabled American Veterans.
