Joanne Helen Binkert Montelongo October 16, 1930 – May 17, 2026

Born in Upland, California, on October 16, 1930, Joanne was the first child of Roy Edwin Binkert and Doris Helen Ochs. Her sister, Doreen, was born two and a half years later. The family lived in the Upland/Ontario area until Joanne was about eight years old, when they relocated to Los Angeles and eventually settled in Windsor Hills. In 1944, her youngest sister, Susan, joined the family.

Joanne attended Audubon Junior High School and Dorsey High School, where she was a member of the Glee Club. She also loved singing in her church choir.

While attending Los Angeles City College and working at The May Company in Crenshaw Center, Joanne met Henry Lee Green. They were married in June 1951. Their first child, Michael, was born soon after, and the family moved to the South Bay, where Stephanie, Christopher, and Terence were later born. The marriage eventually ended in divorce.

Joanne later met Frank Montelongo, and they quickly became inseparable. They were married in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in 1971, blending Joanne’s four children with Frank’s sons, Frank (“Nick”) and Daniel. With Frank’s blessing, Joanne’s four children legally changed their last name to Montelongo.

Joanne and Frank were true soulmates, devoted to one another in every way. Together, they traveled the world and especially enjoyed cruising. They cherished their standing Saturday night dates, dressing to the nines and spending evenings at their favorite restaurants.

After a valiant battle with lung cancer, Frank passed away in 2008. Joanne felt adrift for a time, but with the love and support of her family, she found her footing once again. She began traveling with her children, spent treasured time with her best friend, Betty, joined the Neptunian Woman’s Club, took weekly painting classes at the Senior Center, and rediscovered her love of knitting. Most of all, she cherished the countless family dinners that brought everyone together.

During the last two years of her life, Joanne’s health gradually declined. On May 17, 2026, her Heavenly Father called her home peacefully, surrounded by her children and an incredible gathering of loved ones.

Joanne was a beautiful woman with impeccable style and the beloved matriarch of a large, loving, and spirited family. She leaves behind three sons, one daughter, two stepsons, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her sister, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved beyond measure.

Her 95 years were filled with love, sacrifice, strength, faith, and devotion. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A time of visitation will be held, Sunday, June 14th 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM Green Hills Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Services will be private.
