In Loving Memory of

Jimmy Curtis

Jimmy Curtis was born Monday, August 13, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri to the parents of Booker T. Curtis and Lucille Easter. He was one out of seven children and 3rd from the oldest. As a young boy, his mother decided to move to California and settled in San Pedro where he was raised.

He went to Barton Hill Elementary, Dana Junior High School, and then finally San Pedro High School, graduating in 1974—an honorary Pirate, “Go Pirates.” He held a record for track and weight lifting he loved to brag about. (Smile)

Jimmy was multi-talented and enjoyed life. He could play any instrument he put his hands on, but his favorite was the guitar—he loved playing just like Jimi Hendrix or B.B. King. When he was younger he played for the church, at times played at hometown concerts, but his favorite times were right in his own living room with his family and friends. He was also an artist, with an eye for fine detailing his art, and in the mid-1970s was commissioned to draw a mural on the patio wall of El Taco restaurant located on Pacific Avenue and 9th Street in San Pedro. The mural he drew …

In the 1990s Jimmy started his career as a longshoreman. He was a nightsider, steady top handler for Yang Ming, and loved it, because through that he could travel and help his loved ones. He retired in 2018.

In 2004, he had his first grandchild, Javian Curtis Foster. In 2007, he had his second grandchild, Jaheem Curtis Foster. In 2022, he had his first great-grandchild, Jhaymari Curtis, whom he loved very much.

He leaves to rejoice in the beauty of his life Lucille (mother); Cherie (daughter); Javian, Jaheem (grandsons); Travone (son-in-law); Blake, Rickey, Steve (brothers); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

As we remember Jimmy, we celebrate a life well-lived—a pure and loving man who made all feel welcomed. His laugh, his smile, his being will forever be missed and always remembered.
