Jesusa “Sue” Olmo Dacanay Miller, age 89, of Murrieta, California, passed away peacefully at home, just as she wished, on March 4, 2026, with her loving husband, Arvle Wesley Miller, by her side.

Jesusa was known as “Susa” to her close relatives and “Aunt Sue” to so many others — whether family by blood or simply family by love.

She was born on December 24, 1936, in the third district of Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines, to the late Victoriano and Fausta Dacanay. She was the seventh of ten children and grew up surrounded by her brothers and sisters: Victorina, Virginia, Violeta, Victoriano Jr., Manuel, Zenaida, Mariano, and Octavio.

Jesusa attended Arellano High School in Santa Cruz, Manila for several years before immigrating to the United States in February 1970, with the help of her younger sister, Zenaida Lerma, who petitioned for her. After earning her GED, she began working for the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Street Services, as a Clerk Typist. It was there that she met Wes, beginning the long and loving relationship they would share for many years.

Before marrying, Jesusa pursued one of her true passions: hair styling. She became a hairstylist and later a beauty shop owner, taking pride in her work and in serving others through it.

She was a devout Catholic and a woman of deep and enduring faith. Her husband, Wes, recalls fondly that she attended Mass every Sunday, always insistent that the Lord take priority before any other Sunday activities. Even during the last two years of her illness, she continued to place her trust in the Lord with strength and grace.

Jesusa had a special gift for making others feel cared for, especially through her cooking and baking. Anyone who knew her understood how much she loved preparing food for the people she loved. She made an especially memorable Filipino dish, pancit, which was one of Wes’s favorite dishes, and she joyfully shared her love of baking with her family.

More than anything, Jesusa cherished time with family. She found great happiness in being together for Easter, Christmas, and family gatherings, and she especially loved welcoming others into her home. Her life was marked by kindness, generosity, faith, and love for family, and those gifts will never be forgotten.

Jesusa is survived by her beloved husband, Arvle Wesley Miller and her brother, Mariano Dacanay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victoriano and Fausta Dacanay and siblings, Victorina Delos Reyes, Virginia Curaming, Violeta Dacanay, Victoriano Dacanay Jr., Manuel Dacanay, Zenaida Lerma, and Octavio Dacanay.

We thank God for the blessing of Jesusa’s life and for the many years we were privileged to share with her. Her love, faith, kindness, and generosity will remain in our hearts always. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words.
