Javad Aghili, a distinguished civil engineer and celebrated maestro of traditional Iranian coffee shop painting, passed away on June 15, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of professional achievement, artistic mastery, and deep personal warmth. Born on March 2, 1936, Mr. Aghili’s life was marked by his intelligence, generosity, and artistic passion, qualities that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Aghili was an extraordinary figure in both the engineering and art communities of Iran. He earned a Master’s degree in engineering from Tehran University, where he distinguished himself as the top placement in the school of fine arts—a testament to his rare combination of technical skill and creative vision. Over his illustrious career, he designed, engineered, and supervised the construction of numerous highways, bridges, buildings, and notably, Iran’s first subway system, reflecting his profound impact on the country's infrastructure. His professional dedication culminated in his role as Secretary of the Transportation Vice Chair, a position through which he contributed significantly to Iran’s development.

Beyond his engineering prowess, Javad Aghili was a masterful artist whose love for traditional Iranian coffee shop painting earned him national recognition. He was awarded the prestigious title of Maestro by The National Art Committee and was regarded as a “Face to be remembered” for his tireless efforts in preserving and advancing this cherished Iranian art form. His vast collection, numbering in the hundreds, comprised works from various masters, standing as a testament to his commitment and deep appreciation for Iranian culture and artistry.

Those closest to Mr. Aghili remember him not only for his professional accomplishments and artistic excellence but for his loving, kind, and welcoming nature. Known for his great sense of humor and broad intellect, he had the remarkable ability to make others feel at ease. He was well read, knowledgeable, and possessed a generous spirit that touched friends and family alike. His passions extended to painting and collecting art, books, and calligraphy, revealing a lifelong devotion to culture and creativity.

Javad deeply cherished his family and friends. He delighted in cooking, especially his specialty omelettes, which were a highlight during large family vacations to Northern Iran. His love for fresh and local ingredients was evident as he enjoyed shopping at farmers markets, always eager to try new recipes and share his culinary talents with loved ones. Playing backgammon with his friends also brought him great joy, reflecting both his social nature and appreciation for tradition.

Mr. Aghili is survived by his loving wife, Shokooh Pirayesh; his children, Ali Afshin, Nooshin, and Nazanin Aghili; and his adored grandchildren, Kian, Tara, and Bijan. His family was the center of his world, and their love and support were reciprocated in full measure.

A graveside service to honor Javad Aghili will be held on June 22, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Green Hills Memorial Park, located at 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.  

Javad Aghili was loved by all who knew him. His enduring contributions to engineering and traditional Iranian art, his warm personality, and the fond memories he created with family and friends ensure that his legacy will live on in the hearts of many. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his life’s work and spirit remain a lasting inspiration.
