Janie Carol Thetford

Janie Carol Thetford, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on November 12, 2025, at the age of 73.

Born on September 12, 1952, in San Pedro, California, Janie was known for her warmth, her generous spirit, and the quiet strength that guided her throughout her life.

A proud graduate of San Pedro High School’s Class of 1970, Janie soon married and began a family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Her greatest joy was caring for the people she loved most.

Janie had a deep and lifelong connection to nature. She fed the squirrels and birds every day, finding peace and purpose in caring for the smallest creatures. She passed this love on to her daughters, teaching them to respect and protect all living things. Her dog, Willie, and her cat, Quinn, were her constant companions, and she loved them with her whole heart.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnny, and her first husband. She is survived by her loving husband, Phil Max Thetford; her three daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Wiley, Jodi Beth Gilbert, and Missy Jean Wilson; and her cherished grandson, Stephen Wiley Wilson, the apple of her eye.

Janie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. Those fortunate enough to know her carry her spirit with them—through the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the gentle way she moved through the world. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and strength for all those whose lives she touched.

A service to honor Janie’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 2:00 PM at Green Hills in San Pedro.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the San Pedro Animal Shelter, a cause close to Janie’s heart.
